Everyday carry (EDC) is a collection of essential, personal prepping items that a person consistently carries on them every day. EDC is the secret to completing everyday tasks more efficiently, dealing with emergencies, and being prepared for any unexpected or possibly dangerous situation. As there’s only a limited amount of space found in pants pockets or part of a belt to hang things off of, EDC options can be expanded through the use of a small day pack, tactical pouch, be hidden in long boots or even sewn into clothing.
Whichever EDC items you choose will depend on the purpose and intentions of having them. Everyone’s situation is different and everyday carry gear will vary according to specific circumstances, such as where you live, what you are doing and where you are going. For example, take a person who lives in the city working in an office will have different EDC items than that of someone else who resides in the countryside tending to his farm all day.
Choosing the right everyday carry gear is important and really just boils down to your own personal preferences. Some of the most common everyday carry essentials are; slim wallet with emergency cash, wristwatch (can also be used for navigation), mobile phone, portable charger with phone charging cable, USB thumb drive, flashlight, firearm, pocket knife, multi-tool, 550 paracord, carabiner, keys and keychain, fire starter, sunglasses, handkerchief, tactical pen and notepad. This is not a complete list nor in any particular order but provides a good reference.
I wish to include an important note about having EDC for personal protection, which can include; small batons, pepper spray, stun guns, knives and firearms. The last thing anyone wants to do is become a victim and I recommend that everyone carries in some way to protect themselves. I strongly advise becoming familiar with state and local laws and acting accordingly with them. Whatever you decide to carry every day for personal protection, do it consistently and be responsible. If necessary, seek proper training to handle the EDC self-defense items you want to pack.
